Tigers earn PAC-7 volleyball win over Bulldogs

Two of the top three teams in the PAC-7 conference met on Thursday in a crucial volleyball match. The Randleman Tigers traveled to Trinity to take on the Bulldogs. Randleman entered the math 8-2 in conference play and 14-5 overall on the season. Trinity came in at 6-3 in conference play and 15-5 overall.

Randleman took the first point of the first set, but the Lady Bulldogs would quickly surge ahead. After tying the game at 1-1 and then again at 3-3, Trinity went on a 6-0 run for a 9-3 lead behind the serving of Nyah Powers. Powers served an ace to start the run and Gracie Ballard picked up a kill. Chloe Hildreth ended the run for the Tigers with a kill to make it a 9-4 set. It was Randleman’s turn to go on a run as they used a 7-2 run to tie and take the lead over the Bulldogs. A hit from Hannah Hinshaw gave the Tigers an 11-10 lead over Trinity. The Bulldogs tied the set multiple times, but the Tigers were eventually able to pull away for the lead. Trinity stayed within a couple of points before a 12-4 run by the Tigers gave them a 25-17 set win.

Trinity came out of the gate fired up in the second set as they took the first point of the set. Randleman responded with three quick points and an ace from Karley Hughs for their first lead of the set. The Lady Bulldogs picked up their second point of the set to end the small run by the Tigers. Randleman remained in control as they began to build their lead against the Bulldogs. A hit from Ceci Carter put the Tigers in front 5-3 before a tip from Hinshaw moments later gave them an 8-3 advantage over Trinity. A serving error on the Tigers gave the Bulldogs a free point. Randleman was leading 10-5 when the Bulldogs rallied with a 5-0 run to tie the set at 10 all. The Tigers did not panic and responded with a 12-2 run for a 22-12 lead. Back to back points from the Bulldogs cut the lead to 22-14, but the Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 3-2 down the stretch for a 25-16 set two win.

The Lady Bulldogs took charge early in the third set with a 6-2 run for the early lead. Randleman cut the lead to 6-3, but Trinity continued to extend the lead. Isabella Clem took over the serving duties for the Bulldogs and led them on a 10-0 run for a 17-4 lead. A serving error by the Bulldogs would end their run and give the Tigers a free point. Randleman eventually cut the lead to nine of a kill from Carter, but could never get closer than that. Trinity closed out the set on a 6-2 run for a 25-12 set win.

The Lady Tigers of Randleman bounced back in the fourth set as they held off the Bulldogs for a 25-19 set win to win the match 3 sets to one. Chloe Hildreth led the Tigers with 12 kills, three aces, and 12 digs, while Aubrey Maness added 19 digs and one ace. Ceci Carter finished with eight kills, five aces, one block, four digs, and one assist. Karley Hughes and McKenzie Green dished out 17 and 16 assists respectively. For Trinity, Gracie Ballard led the way with 14 kills, one block, and four digs. Sydney Skeen dished out 28 assists, while Maddie Stevens added 9 kills.
