PAC-7 varsity soccer action came to Randleman on Monday as the Tigers hosted rival Providence Grove at Charles R. Gregory Stadium. Randleman came into Monday’s match-up 6-1 in conference play and 7-9 overall, while the Patriots were 0-7 in conference play and 1-12 overall on the season.

Randleman wasted no time getting the scoring party started as Francisco Nunez scored just two minutes into the first half. The Patriots took their turn on offense, but could not capitalize as the Tigers took the ball away. Randleman controlled the ball for most of the half and had several great looks at the goal. Providence Grove keeper Nick Swaim made some stops, but the Tigers kept finding a way around him. Robert Morales put his name in the scoring column at the 28:10 mark of the half, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Liam Mowers made it a 3-0 lead seconds later as he sent one into the back of the net. The Patriots kept the Tigers from scoring for about three minutes before Nunez notched his second goal of the night at the 24:41 mark off an assist from Morales.

Randleman continued to find ways around the defense as Mowers sent one right passed the outstretched hands of Swaim to put the Tigers up 5-0. Providence Grove’s defense found a groove for a few minutes as they tried to stop the bleeding from the Tigers’ scoring attack. Julio Hernandez ended the scoring drought for the Tigers with a goal at the 14:47 mark. Randleman would cap off the half with a goal at the 8:39 mark by Osvaldo Arellano. A miscommunication on defense by the Tigers led to the first goal of the night for the Patriots. Randleman keeper Caedmon Trivette came out of the net to pressure, but Keontae Phelps of the Patriots got around him and scored in the open goal at the 2:05 mark. The half would end with the Tigers leading 7-1.

Providence Grove stepped up their defensive play during the second half as they allowed the Tigers to score just two goals. The first goal of the second half for the Tigers came at the 22:47 mark when Victor Gomez scored on a header. Randleman would not score again until under six minutes left in the game. Providence Grove tried to cut in to the lead, but Trivette was great in goal for the Tigers. The final goal of the night for the Tigers came at the 5:35 mark when Brando Martinez scored. Martinez took the ball from the hands of the keeper as he tried to corral it on the ground. Neither team would score again, but a double yellow card would be given at the 2:52 mark for unsportsman like conduct. Randleman’s Robert Morales and Providence Grove’s Edgar Mondragon would each pick up a yellow card. This one would end with the Tigers claiming a 9-1 win over the Patriots.
