UMS shuts out RMS

Tuesday afternoon the Randleman Tigers hosted the Timberwolves of Uwharrie middle school for a match up in softball.

Beginning the top of the first was Alley Lowe as she drew a walk from the Tigers. Randleman worked as a team to get back to back outs in the inning. C. Minton put the Timberwolves on the board as she singled to score E. Snow. H. Beane was up next as she hit a RBI double scoring Minton and putting Uwharrie up 2-0. Randleman got out of the inning with the third out. Starting the bottom of the first with a strikeout were the Timberwolves. With Uwharrie having two outs Gracin Hall stepped to the plate hitting a triple. Hall was left stranded as the Timberwolves got the third out of the inning.

L. Hughes began the top of the second with a base hit for the Timberwovles. Behind her, Kassidy Glasgow laid down the bunt advancing Hughes into scoring position. Hughes was able to steal third, before Lowe drew another walk from the Tigers. Randleman struck out the following batter for the first out of the inning. Tia Lunsford singled to reach first, but would be left stranded as the Tigers picked up the final two outs of the inning. UMS forced the Tigers into a quick three up, three down inning in the bottom of the second.

Beane kicked off the third inning with a double for the Timberwolves, but RMS followed it up with the first out of the inning. Madison Varner picked up a RBI single as she scored Beane, putting UMS up 3-0. Hughes drew a walk and Glasgow loaded the bases with a bunt for the Timberwolves. The Tigers picked up the second out of the inning by picking off the lead runner at home. K. Payne scored Varner on a single to give UMS a 4-0 lead. RMS got the final out of the inning moments later. In the bottom of the third, Mackenzie Roach started things with a base hit for the Tigers. Uwharrie threw a strikeout and then turned a double play to get out of the inning. In the top of the fourth, Randleman picked up back to back outs early. Maddie Duvall drew a walk from the Tigers and Varner earned her second base hit of the game. Both runners were left stranded as the Tigers got the third out of the inning. RMS was forced into another one, two, three, inning  in the bottom of the fourth.

Starting the top of the fifth was Glasgow as she bunted her way to first base. Lwe advanced the runner with a single and Payne loaded the bases with a bunt of her own. With no outs, Lunsford hit a two run RBI single that sent Glasgow and Lowe home. With one out, Beane slammed the ball over the center field fence for a three run home run that put UMS up 9-0. Up to the plate next was Duvall as she got walked to first base. Randleman ended the top of the fifth with back to back outs. In the bottom of the fifth, the Timberwolves allowed one walk to Maddie Faulkner, but she was left stranded as Uwharrie got three outs.

The Tigers began the top of the sixth with an out. Laying down another bunt was Glasgow as she beat the throw down the first base line. Lowe picked up a double just before Glasgow stole home to make it a 10-0 UMS lead. Lowe would score off a single from Payne. A RBI single from Minton gave the Timberwolves a 12-0 lead. Beane reached on a RBI double that scored Lunsford. Duvall and Varner drew back to back walks which forced Minton home with the bases load. UMS ended up leading 16-0 by the time RMS picked up the second out of the inning. Snow picked up a two run single that gave the Timberwolves an 18-0 lead. UMS would close out the inning with a 21-0 lead. Elizabeth York started the Tigers out with a base hit to begin the bottom of the sixth, but Uwharrie finished the inning with three straight outs. UMS claimed a 21-0 win over the Tigers.
