Wheatmore’s Oakley to wrestle for App State

Wheatmore High School

Wheatmore High School senior Ethan Oakley made his decision to continue his wrestling career at the collegiate level on Friday when he signed his National Letter of Intent. Oakley will suit up for the Appalachian State Mountaineers next year.

Oakley has had a stellar high school wrestling career with one season of eligibility left. He is the son of Rodney and Melinda Oakley and brother of Nathan Oakley a former wrestling standout at Providence Grove. Oakley currently stands with a 162-6 overall record with two of those wins earning him estate titles. He won his first state title in 2017 as a freshman at Providence Grove before transferring to Wheatmore the following year. In 2018, he finished as the state runner-up in the 126-pound weight class before reclaiming the state title last season. He has earned All-State honors three times, while also earning All-American honors in 2019 at the Virginia Beach Nationals. He also finished eighth at Super 32 in Greensboro. Oakley is currently the 19th ranked wrestling in the nation at 126-pounds and looks to defend his state title this season. Everyone at MyRandolphSports.com would like to congratulate Ethan on this outstanding accomplishment and wish him the very best of luck next year!
