Wildcats rally to top Tigers

It was senior night at Randleman High School as the Lady Tigers took on the Eastern Randolph Lady Wildcats in the final home PAC-7 volleyball match of the regular season. The Lady Tigers entered the match 9-2 in conference play and 15-5 overall on the season. The Lady Wildcats came in at 4-5 in conference play and 5-11 overall on the season.

Randleman took the first point in the first set after a serving error on the Wildcats. Taelyn Johnson tied the set for the Wildcats with a kill before giving them a 3-1 lead with another kill moments later. Randleman cut the lead to one, but a push from Madison Hussey extended the Wildcats’ lead back to two. The Tigers went on a small 5-0 run to take a 7-4 lead over the Wildcats, but Eastern Randolph came back to tie the set at 7 all. The set would be tied at 9 all before the Tigers began to pull away. A push from Ceci Carter gave the Tigers a 13-11 lead midway through the set. Randleman extended their lead to 17-11 before a kill from Kolby Snider ended the run for the Wildcats. Eastern Randolph cut the lead to 18-14 off a kill from Johnson moments later. Randleman pushed ahead for a 21-17 lead, but a serving error on the Tigers allowed the Wildcats to cut the lead to three. The Tigers closed out the set on a 4-0 run to win 25-18.

The Lady Tigers took an early 2-0 lead to start the second set, but the Wildcats stormed back for a 5-3 lead after a hit from Johnson. Eastern Randolph maintained a small lead and extended that lead to 9-6 after back to back serving errors on the Tigers. From there, Randleman began to close the gap as went on a 7-4 run to tie the set at 13 all. The Tigers added two more points to their run before the Wildcats retied the set at 15 all and took the lead. Eastern Randolph led 17-15 when a serving error allowed the Tigers to cut the lead to one before tying the set at 17 all. The set would be tied again at 18 all and 19 all before the Wildcats went on a 6-1 run to close out the set for a 25-20 set win.

With the match tied at one set apiece, the teams went to work in the third set in hopes of taking the advantage. After a tough battled, the Tigers would emerge victorious in the third set with a 25-21 set win to take a 2-1 advantage in the match. Randleman’s advantage would not last long as the Wildcats tied the match at two sets apiece with a 25-15 win in set four. It all came down to the fifth set and the teams battled hard for the victory. It would be the Lady Wildcats who got the win 15-13 in the fifth set to take the match 3 sets to 2.

Senior Chloe Hildreth led the Tigers with nine kills, two aces, and nine digs, while senior Karley Hughes dished out seven assists, eight digs, two aces, and one kill. Ceci Carter added five kills, one ace, two blocks, one dig, and one assist. Katherine Ann Petty added seven kills, while Linsey Peele finished with six kills.
