Game of the Week: Tigers at Blue Comets
Posted on August 31, 2010 at 6:10 PM by Fred Burgess
Asheboro High School
Asheboro and Randleman both enter this week's game with a 1-1 record. Last year's game was a great game to watch. The Tigers jumped out to a big halftime lead and the Blue Comets came storming back behind the running of Demitri Faglier and Brandon Burr. Faglier scored the go ahead touchdown with a minute left in the game. Faglier and Burr have graduated and Randleman returns almost all of last year's team.
After a last second loss to Central Davidson last week, the Tigers are hungry to get back on the field. The Tigers defense will have to improve this week if they are going to stop the Blue Comet rushing attack. Blue Comet Coach Chuck Henderson says, "This is a rivalry game, and we are expecting a tough contest."
Randleman has put over 25 points on the board in their first two games. The Blue Comet defense may be the key to the outcome of this game. Asheboro has struggled offensively, but Randleman's defense showed some weekness last week.
WHO do you think will win????

Posted on August 28, 2010 at 11:35 PM by Matt
Providence Grove High School
Providence Grove wins what can only be described as an ugly football game. The Providence Grove defense played well for the second week in a row, but the offense turned the ball over too many times. Ernie Patterson scored twice and Alex Suarez kicked a 33 yard field goal for the Patriots. The Warriors were only able to put up 89 yards of total offense. Josh Rickert scored Wheatmore's loan touchdown.

Posted on August 27, 2010 at 11:15 PM by Richard Schoenberger
Trinity High School

Most of the scoring and excitement came in the first half of this evenly matched ballgame between the Golden Eagles of East Davidson and the Bulldogs of Trinity. With the score tied 12-12 at half it remained that way into double-overtime until East Davidson's Kirk Kanoy intercepted a poorly thrown ball on Trinity's 1st down of the second overtime of which East's quarterback #12, Taylor Warren wasted no time in running it up and through the middle for the game winning TD.

The key players for both teams were the quarterbacks; East Davidson's Taylor Warren had 25 carries, 95 yards and the game winning TD. Trinity's QB Rhyne Kivett had 20 carries, 68 yards and one TD.

Quotes:
"We are not looking for moral victories. We played a very good team tonight. We played well enough to win, but just did not make the plays when we needed to. ER is the top team in the county. You cannot make mistakes and expect to beat them. I am proud of how the Southwestern Cougars competed tonight." Cougar Head Coach Martin Samek
"I just saw the ball and it popped right up in my hands. I almost started crying when as I was running in the end zone." ER defensive back Jalen Alston on returning a fumble 97 yards with 1:31 remaining.
"It is a shame one team had to lose. Both teams really got after it. This was a great rivalry game." ER Head Coach Seth Baxter
